Following a remedial damp proofing treatment you should wait 6 months before painting with a water based emulsion, or wait 12 months if you are wallpapering or painting with a silk emulsion.

Can damp proofing be done without removing the plaster?

In most cases removing plaster is not required to treat damp. Plaster removal is only needed when performing certain damp proofing jobs. These include certain methods to fix rising damp.

Is damage caused by rising damp covered by building insurance?

While you would need to check your specific insurance policy, the answer is probably not.  The majority of home insurance policies (covering either the building itself or the contents within it) will not provide you with any compensation for the damage that occurs as a result of rising damp.

Can I get a grant for damp proofing my home?

Whilst there are a range of grants and schemes that are available for certain home improvements, there are currently no free damp proofing grants available.
